Soulwax Side Project: Forbidden

A limited edition vinyl box set has been created by a team made up of Soulwax, UK electrotrash dj Riton, and artist Fergus Purcell (AKA Fergadelic). The side project is called ‘Die Verboten’ and ya kna’, being Swiss and all, I can tell you this means FORBIDDEN.

The box set is called “Live in Eivissa”  – named after an 18min track recorded in Ibiza on the A-side. On the B-side one can find a unique laser-etched piece of art. Another wacky feature to be noted is a pop-up pyramid, similar to the ones in our little kiddy books, whose configuration is designed to ‘focus the deep cosmic powers of the vinyl housed inside’. Whoa.

Die Verboten

Die Verboten

I like this etch, it reminds me a lot of the bright patterned clothing worn in M.I.A.’s Paper Planes vid when she’s dancing down the street wif her entourage.

Here’s a lil sample of Fergadelic’s past work. Known for his stoner aesthetics, skull pieces, humor, sci-fi, and music related graphics. You be the judge:

SPEW - blaahhhhhh

SPEW - blaahhhhhh

Anyway, Die Verboten is due to come out around the end of June. Only 300 copies are being made. Kudos to Mixmag fo the goods.

Steve Shaw and Kanye West

Red LV's, Black LV's, Random Golden/White Girl, and Kanye

Red LV's, Black LV's, Random Golden/White Girl, and Kanye

Again. And again. And maybe some more. Maybe just two more times. Kanye West back on here again. No homo.

The picture above. Should I pay attention to the naked girl, or the shoe, and if I pick the shoe does that make me a metro. It does. Good thing I chose the female lying half naked. She’d probably cost less then the shoe. The cheapest pair goes for 800 a pair. I could probably pay her $600 to lie on my lap with gold bronzer all over her with my busted Air Max 90’s.

Oh, and these are promo ads for his latest LV shoes. Just in case you’re not tuned into coolness these days.

Hocus-Pocus: If You’re Hip, You Drink Belley

Here’s my first post in decades –  maybe even centuries:

Two of my loves include vodka and rappers. So I thought I would share a nice lil’ combo. Nick’s ADIDAS commercial reminded me of this: Belvedere Vodka x RZA x Vincent Gallo. I know you ninjas love staleness.

This was Belvedere’s attempt to relaunch their brand image. Couldn’t you tell from the fedora, plaid, that fire-crotch, and the picture taker? An attempt to appeal to those that party underground and are way too cool for school. Like all of us here at WBA. We totally cop shit way before Stitches. You don’ know.

RZA said “They came to me because I’m an underground producer… even though I’ve sold millions and millions of records… or whateva. When I say Wu-Tang, the W is for Whitty, and the U is for Unpredictable.” Okay, cool. Anyway, I’d be down for a jam like that.

LET IT RAIN bitchezzz,

-Krista

Air Yeezy’s Ridiculousness – LiveStock + Norml

Us here at WBA probably should have dropped these flicks on the 4th when the Yeezy’s dropped. But I was hella wasted for the past three days so I guess I had no real opportunity. I was too busy moshing and sweating all over people to be blogging. Now I am back in class, not sweating and moshing, so I am blogging. Here are some pictures from LiveStock’s Toronto location.

Judging by comparison and line up time, you probably should’ve just copped them at NORML right here in Ottawa. This is a picture of the first run. There will be a second run soon enough.

Big ups to normlclothing.ca and hypebeast.com for the pictures,

Steve Angelo vs. Paris Hilton

Who needs Paris, when you have this girl.

Who needs Paris, when you have this girl.

It seems as those Paris Hilton is a DJ. Looks like Angelo wasn’t a huge fan of Hilton telling him to change the track at one of his WMC sets. I mean it’s the WMC’s. The whole of Miami is filled with every type of DJ who is worth being a DJ.This is a direct quote from her myspace page. Click here to read more.

The DJ (I don’t even know his name cause he sucks so bad) was playing the worst music ever! I like certain techno music, but this was not even danceable and was frankly giving me a migraine. I asked one of my friends who runs the hotel if he could change the music…I asked the DJ if he could please play Daft Punk or Bob Sinclair and he rudely snapped at me and was like ‘I only play this kind of music.” … He was so unbelievably rude and all because I asked to play one good song. Then out of nowhere his bodyguard (don’t ask me why he has a bodyguard, like he really needs one. Ha) pushed me really hard, that’s when my boyfriend, like my knight in shining armor, stepped in and told the guy to keep his hands off of me.

Her knight in shining armor eventually left with a broken face. His armor was not shining after that. Woot woot Paris.

Here’s Steve Angelo and A Trak working on a masterpiece

Ups to Toronto’s own Salacioussounds.com for the bite.

Spike Jonze > _____________

spike motherfuckin' jonze

spike motherfuckin' jonze

After watching the “Where the Wild Things Are” trailer, I sat back and thought about all of the amazing videos/music videos that Spike Jonze has created. I did a little searching around and it turns out that Spike Jonze is responsible for alot of things, more things than the average person probably knows about. I mean c’mon: the guy co-owns Girl skateboards and helped create the post modern phenomena known as “jackass”. Those facts alone give the guy respect in my book, add the fact that he is the director of handfulls of my most favorited music videos.

I pretty much just wanted to make this post to spread the knowledge about Jonze. Mad respect.

Here are some of my favorite music videos, all directed by Spike Jonez.

Weezer – Buddy Holly

Beastie Boys – Sabotage

The Pharcyde – Drop

Daft Punk – Da Funk

Puff Daddy – Its All About the Benjamins (Rock Remix)

Notorious B.I.G – Sky’s the Limit

Praise You – Fatboy Slim (the dance teacher is Spike Jonze)

Fatlip – What’s up Fatlip?

Tenacious D – Wonderboy

Ludacris – Get Back

Kanye West – Flashing Lights

and as far as feature films Spike has directed…

Adaptation

Being John Malkovich

Skate videos that he has directed…

Lakai’s Fully Flared

Girls’ Yeah Right!

and a couple mainstream television commercials he’s directed as well..

Spike’s Ikea commercial:

Gap commercial:

Levi’s commercial:

Adidas commercial:

anndddd…

A collection of spike’s work on 1 dvd. I know im going to cop this as soon as the funds are available.
