Summer’s summer, but not in Ottawa. Summer’s a long drawn out work week with minimal sun, and maximum cold, which means minimum summer babe-age.
But, summer continues to roll right through with MAD events poppin’ off, unusual for a city where government workers cover 82.5% of the population (true stories).
Which me leads me to the next point. My fellow long lost blogger, BRENONES, landed an interview with A Trak. For those not familar, A Trak’s won every dj comp in the book, he was Kanye’s deejay, he has his own label, Fools Gold, and is a genre leader in his beat making and mixing abilities. What up. Here’s a vid.
Love Ice Tea callin him out on being a pipe bombin’ terroist.
Anyway, we are super stoked brah about this interview, so we wanna share that excitement with you, we want YOUR questions for A Trak, which of course we’ll be askin’ him.
Make em knowladgble, make em dope, and make em LOL – able.
For the next six days leading up to the interview we”ll be doing an A Trak post, gettin’ some hype bumpin’ behind this.
Get ready nuccas and nuccets,
Andrew + BRENONES
A limited edition vinyl box set has been created by a team made up of Soulwax, UK electrotrash dj Riton, and artist Fergus Purcell (AKA Fergadelic). The side project is called ‘Die Verboten’ and ya kna’, being Swiss and all, I can tell you this means FORBIDDEN.
The box set is called “Live in Eivissa” – named after an 18min track recorded in Ibiza on the A-side. On the B-side one can find a unique laser-etched piece of art. Another wacky feature to be noted is a pop-up pyramid, similar to the ones in our little kiddy books, whose configuration is designed to ‘focus the deep cosmic powers of the vinyl housed inside’. Whoa.
I like this etch, it reminds me a lot of the bright patterned clothing worn in M.I.A.’s Paper Planes vid when she’s dancing down the street wif her entourage.
Here’s a lil sample of Fergadelic’s past work. Known for his stoner aesthetics, skull pieces, humor, sci-fi, and music related graphics. You be the judge:
SPEW - blaahhhhhh
Anyway, Die Verboten is due to come out around the end of June. Only 300 copies are being made. Kudos to Mixmag fo the goods.
Here’s a lil’ present for ya’ll. Intro first:
- Flutebox & Beardyman – Google hosted an event for their employees and brought in these ninjas – UK’s premier beat-boxers straight from Londontown
- Beardyman – UK Beatbox Champ two years straight – 06/07
- Quite a comical routine
The first time I watched this vid, I wasn’t really watching – more listening. Errytime I’d look back at my comp screen I’d be in awe. With only one question: How the fuck? This shit is amazing. Please watch all 18mins. It’s so worth it. I pwomise.
These boys throw down, covering everything from Drum & Bass to D’Angelo slow jamz. Their set includes some James Brown, Beat Nuts (Watch Out Now: wicked pump-up), even a fucking Planet Earth skit.
So without further adieu, PUMP UP YO’ BASS, and git rrready!
Told you so.
Marina Abramovic has an allure about her that is very elusive. She has been producing perfomance based pieces using photography, video and sculpture for over 30 years. Most of her works are duration pieces made with bone, insects, knives, blood…basically very loaded imagery. She takes her work to the extreme, while still keeping them very intimate. Some of her work is a little to much for me ( as far as “expression” goes)but here are a few photos from a recent shoot that stuck with me…enjoy!
ps-where is everyone?
Heres a flick of a wall done in Kamloops not too long ago by some Vancouver and Kamloops writers…(right to left, up and down) WHO, SUEME, SERVO, ASESR, DIFFER, ENSOE, DEMOS, WAYS, WEBS, HOSER, GUTS
not bad for a highway spot…dope is all i gotta say.
Saber is all over the place these days, and quite frankly very happy to see it. Heres a collabo line he did with Usagow and Upper Playground…hope to see more, this shit is tight!
Graf legend Saber is featured in this months issue of MyNameIs magazine. The article is awesome, the main feature of the issue is legendary illustrator/animator Jim Philips…if there are any illustrator buffs out there, you’ll love this issue. If you can’t find the mag, check out saber’s website – saberone.com – here’s some flicks from saber’s article…..
